July 1st to August 12th : mission in Ethiopia
The Omo Group Research Expedition conducted a new fieldwork campaign
This mission involved 45 participants, including researchers in paleontology, in prehistory, in geology and in paleoenvironments, under the direction of Jean-Renaud Boisserie (PALEVOPRIM). The following institutions participated: CNRS (France), Université de Poitiers (France), Université de Bordeaux (France), ARCCH (Ethiopia), Adigrat University (Ethiopia), Cambridge University (United Kingdom), Centre Français des Études Éthiopiennes (Ethiopia), Centre National de Recherche pour le Développement (Chad), Institut national de recherches archéologiques préventives (France), Université Aix-Marseille (France), Université de Lille (France), University of Illinois (USA).
More than 800 artifacts and over 1200 fossil specimens were found, including eight human remains dated to between 2,3 Ma and less than 1 Ma.
