Collections: Comparative anatomy
Description
The comparative anatomy collection of PALEVOPRIM, which is part of the collections of the University of Poitiers, currently includes more than 2,000 fossil or extant osteological specimens. This collection, enriched by generations of researchers of the University of Poitiers, encompasses 47 orders and 210 vertebrate families (placoderms, chondricthyans, sarcopterygians, and tetrapods).
Use
This collection is used for training purpose, for scientific outreach and for research. Our researchers use them as scientific references. Students study them during practical work sessions and integrate some specimens in their internship and pedagogic projects. Finally, the collection feeds exhibits on paleontology and evolution, as well as the knowledge diffusion actions towards public schools.
Funding
This collection benefited from the training unit Geosciences, PALEVOPRIM and the CVCU.
