DIET-PRIME

Adaptation of the primate dental morphology to their diets

Principal Investigator

Type of project

DieT-PrimE is a “young scientist” collaborative project funded by the French National Agency for Research, 2018-2025.

Research questions

DieT-PrimE develops new topographical methods for detecting and quantifying, on extant and extinct primate teeth, the adaptations linked to the consumption and the chewing of foods with well-defined mechanical properties. This aims at determining if mammal evolution was constrained by fallback food or by their most common diet.

Some Results

DieT-PrimE, that started last year, will publish soon a review on the methods using dental topography for interpreting the adaptations and the chewing functions in primates.

Partnership

The consortium DieT-PrimE involves PALEVOPRIM (project coordination) and scientists belonging to various institutions (INRAE, ESTIA, ENSMA, ISEM). It will conduct field missions (Africa, South America, Asia) and many study missions in museums of Europe, Africa, and America.
