Topic
Impact of glaciation events on Rhinocerotidae
During their evolutionary history in Europe, the Rhinocerotidae faced two similar glaciation events coinciding with their rise (Oligocene-Miocene transition) and fall (Late Pleistocene): the Mi-1 glaciation (~23 Mya) between Oligocene and Miocene and marking the beginning of the Neogene period, and the last glacial cycle of the Pleistocene (Riss-Würm interglacial and Würm glaciation in Alpine domain, equivalent of Eemian interglacial and Weichselian glaciation in Northern Europe). Using a multi-proxy approach, I try to understand the impact of these events on the paleoecology and decipher the role of climate changes and humans during the Late Quaternay Extinctions.
