Research objective

The aim of my thesis work is to characterise the environment and the domestic, utilitarian and symbolic relationships between humans and carnivores during the Magdalenian period in central-western France.

Topics of study

Using a multidisciplinary approach combining archaeozoology and studies of so-called ‘symbolic’ behaviour, I am interested not only in the evolution of past biodiversity, but also in the place held by carnivores in the physical and mental worlds of magdalenian societies.

My research involves the identification and characterisation of natural and modified bone remains, palaeoecological and palaeobiological investigations, such as isotope geochemistry, and the analysis and reading of graphic representations leading to the production of surveys. These parallels between figurative representations, use as part of the adornment, and bone remains of carnivores provide a basis for understanding the interactions between the environment and symbolic productions.
