Collections: Fossil vertebrates
Description
Our collections of vertebrate paleontology, inherited from scientific researches performed by the University of Poitiers paleontology teams since the 1960s (Chaire de Paléontologie des vertébrés then Laboratoire de Géobiologie, Biochronologie et Paléontologie Humaine), include more than 10,000 specimens, mostly mammals and “reptiles” found in sites of the Region Nouvelle-Aquitaine.
These collections constitute a major research tool for PALEVOPRIM, being used as a reference for all our scientific work. Open to study by the international scientific community thanks to the support of the University of Poitiers and CNRS, they include many type and illustrated specimens recorded in the Tyfipal database. These collections are also used for the practical training of our student and can be visited by schools.
